Huge £175m Manchester leisure attraction looks set to go ahead
A £175m indoor spa and therme park on the outskirts of Manchester looks set to be approved by planners next week.
Officials at Trafford Council are recommending that members of the planning committee approve the plans at a meeting on Thursday.
The 28-acre resort close to the Trafford Centre will include water slides and wave pools alongside a luxury spa.
Therme Manchester announced its plans last year and claiming they want to bring together “the tradition of the ancient Roman spa with an indoor tropical paradise”.
The new resort will be in TraffordCity on Barton Dock Road between Phoenix Way, Mercury Way and the Bridgewater Canal. The site has been occupied by EventCity.
Building work is expected to start later this year if the committee grants full planning permission. The site is due to open for business in 2023.
Plans include a 700,000 sq ft resort building, a new public square, an artificial lake and up to 1,500 car parking spaces.

A spokesperson for Therme said: “Therme Manchester will bring together the tradition of the ancient Roman spa with an indoor tropical paradise.
“Therme resorts are some of the largest attractions in the world, built and operating at the highest level of quality and sustainability.
“The concept has been running in Europe for over 20 years, making a long-lasting positive impact on communities.
“Nature and water are at the heart of Therme creating a true oasis in the city, with everything from exciting wave pools and waterslides to relaxing luxury spa experiences.”
Among Therme’s site is Therme Bucharest, the largest thermal leisure resort in Europe.
James Whittaker, Peel L&P Group development director, added: “Bringing Therme Manchester to TraffordCity is a once in a generation opportunity and these plans will deliver a world class well-being resort to the north of England, create a state-of-the-art events and conference facility as well as provide a permanent football facility for the local community.”
