Begbies Traynor appeals for stem cell donors

BEGBIES Traynor Group, the profession services group, is appealing to the North West business community to join the stem cell donor register.

One of the firm’s Manchester-based partners, Alan Tomlinson, is battling cancer and will need a stem cell transplant from a suitable donor when he completes his latest course of chemotheraphy at Christie Hospital.

Tomlinson is fighting Lymphoma for the second time in two years. His wife and three children are in a race against time to find potential donors and are holding donor drives across the country to help find a match.

In an attempt to raise awareness of the illness and increase the number of donors on the Antony Nolan register, Begbies Traynor Group will hold a donor drive in conjunction with The Antony Nolan Trust at its head office on Deansgate, Manchester on Tuesday 13 September 2011.

The group plans to invite both clients and peers aged 18-40 in the region to do their part for Alan and others needing this life saving transplant treatment.

Catherine Matthews, partner at Begbies Traynor said: ““Alan desperately needs to find a match if he is to benefit from the lifesaving transplant – and there are sadly many others out there in the same situation.

“The entire process takes just 15 minutes and could potentially save a life. We urge the local business community to take this time out of their day to support such an important cause.”

At the first stage donors will just be asked to provide a saliva sample to see if they are a match – finding a match is very difficult because there are millions of stem cell varieties.
