The North has always been a hotbed for disruption, and is often cited as the birthplace of the industrial revolution.

As we enter a new decade, global law firm Squire Patton Boggs and TheBusinessDesk.com are undertaking a project set to look at the key disruptive trends affecting the Northern economy and business community.

The eight month project, PACE of the North, has highlighted Policy, Automation, Climate change and Ethics (PACE) as key areas that are and will have an effect on the performance and future direction of the North’s business.

Launching today, PACE of the North follows the successful collaboration between the law firm and media business on the State of the North project over the previous two years.

The project is being kick-started with a survey for business leaders, to get their views on how each of these themes are influencing their decisions and planning – click here to have your say.

Rob Elvin Squire Patton Boggs’ office managing partner in Manchester, said: “We are committed to supporting the Northern Powerhouse through thought leadership-led activities such as PACE which will focus on how Policy, Automation, Climate change and Ethics are driving global and regional change and how they will influence corporate behaviours and governance.

“We actively support the development of our clients, our people and our communities to be the best they can be. We are committed to supporting a brighter future for our region.”

Alex Turner, joint managing director of TheBusinessDesk.com, added: “Stakeholder capitalism may be an old term but it has re-emerged in recent months, including at Davos, as successful businesses increasing take into account their broader impact.

“This project will mix round table discussions, interviews and data to analyse the impact these changes are having on the region’s economy.”
