Leigh-based Ainscough Strategic Land (ASL) has secured a resolution to grant planning permission for 2,500 homes, its largest single-ownership planning approval to date.

The approval is the first the company has announced during the pandemic and, says managing director Rachael Ainscough, demonstrates that the fundamentals of the housing market remain solid.

“The pandemic has slowed things up a little, inevitably, but we have a number of other deals heading towards conclusion and I’m hopeful that the economy can get back up to speed as lockdown is eased.”

A number of house builders with large sites in the North West have returned to work on site, including Persimmon, Taylor Wimpey and Redrow.

ASL’s latest planning success will deliver 2,500 much-needed new homes for Swindon in Wiltshire, including 500 affordable units, two primary schools, two local centres, a substantial sports hub and pavilion, significant further areas of open space, the retention of a local business park and creation of new business space.

In the North West the company is progressing schemes in Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Warrington.

Miss Ainscough said: “The North West remains the largest housing market outside London’s orbit and it remains a key focus for us, especially given it’s our home.”
