New occupants for historic Stockport heritage site

Three Shires

Stockport-based financial planning firm TPD Wealth Management has moved to one of Stockport’s oldest listed buildings, 30 Great Underbank, otherwise known as the historic Three Shires.

The SK1 location is estimated to have been built during the 15th or 16th century, according to a heritage statement commissioned by the current landlord, and it is thought to be Stockport’s second oldest building.

This latest development for both TPD and 30 Great Underbank comes at a time where the Grade II-listed building has faced an extended vacancy following the previous tenant’s decision to move their business from the Stockport area, ending 140 years of legal office use.

However, the directors and staff of TPD Wealth Management said they are looking forward to making their mark on the building and becoming a part of local history, having been offering financial advice to clients local to the area, for nearly a decade.

Due to take place next month, a soft move in date has been set for the week of September 14, when the firm will relocate from its current location on Wellington Road South.

To comply with COVID measures and ensure the safety of staff, clients and the general public, an open house launch event has been postponed until further notice.

Lifelong Stockport resident and one of TPD’s directors, Tim Widdowson said: “The move into this long-standing heritage site at the heart of our community not only represents the next step for our firm, but begins the next chapter of this medieval building’s unique history.

“To say we’re are excited to take up residency here is a massive understatement. We look forward to welcoming our clients and their families to a rather unique office warming event when it is safe to do so.”

The spacious rooms of The Three Shires are to be refurbished into elegant meeting spaces for clients and drop-ins seeking financial advice, all the while protecting the original features of the building such as the medieval timber framing and roof structure.
