Concerns for family-run trailer manufacturing group

A family-run Cheshire trailer manufacturer has reportedly filed a notice to appoint an administrator.

Altrincham-based The Cartwright Group, which was founded in 1952, is understood to have been in contact with business advisor Deloitte, according to trade publication Motor Transport.

A Deloitte spokesperson declined to comment when contacted by TheBusinessDesk.com

The Cartwright Group indicated to TheBusinessDesk.com today (September 11) that it will respond to requests for a statement, but has yet to issue one.

The group featured in the Sunday Times Top Track 250 in both 2017 and 2018.

In 2017 the business forecast a record turnover of more than £130m for the year as it cemented its position as the second largest trailer manufacturer in the UK.

Group managing director, Mark Cartwright, said at the time: “The business continues to expand across all our mainstream activities and this is a reflection of our hard-working workforce and our committed senior management team.”

Later that year, in September, the group announced the launch of Cartwright Finance in response to customers increasingly seeking flexible finance options across all the company’s range of products and services.

Then, a month later, the group acquired aircraft ground support equipment manufacturer Emtek Services.

In June this year the group posted a tribute to its staff on the company website, thanking them for their work in ensuring it was able to operate through an “unprecedented period”.
