Northern Asian Powerlist 2020 winners – Amir Hussain

Amir Hussain, chief executive of Yeme Architects, won the Emerging Leader category of the inaugural Northern Asian Powerlist 2020.

The full list of winners, along with all those shortlisted, was announced on Friday 2 October.

Outlining why they had chosen Hussain, the judges’ report explained: “Amir has demonstrated his ability to lead within a non-traditional sector.

“He is a role model who provides innovative solutions that impact on others within his sector to inspire ambition.

“Amir’s work at the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership and across the region is highly regarded.”

Hussain commented: “As founder of Yeme Architects (YA), I have developed it into a critical-thinking, multifaceted and multiple award-winning design practice.

“Combining an acute understanding of aspirational and communicative design with a strong focus on social/tech trends has led to incredible outcomes, growth and involvement in nationally significant projects.

“Furthermore, having operated extensively in challenging regeneration areas, YA has successfully raised aspirations, engagement and long-term consequences.

“Applying visionary, creative parameters to commercial projects has subtly yet profoundly altered results, leading to improved social and viability outcomes.”

 

Shortlisted for the Emerging Leader category were:

North East – Imran Khaliq, group director, Gainford Group; Sanjee Ratnatunga, founder and director of Ideas for Change Consulting.

North West – Abhishek Singh, head of Hero Global Design; Advita Patel, founder, Comms Rebel; Mohammed Hannan, head of digital, AstraZeneca UK.

Yorkshire and the Humber – Sasha Bhat, head of commissioning – Mental Wellbeing, NHS Bradford; Zahra Niazi, programme lead, Bradford For Everyone.
