100 jobs lost as Tameside M&E firm closes

A DUKINFIELD-based electrical contracting and engineering firm which employed more than 100 staff has ceased trading after administrators failed to find a buyer for the firm.

Administrators from Baker Tilly were appointed to Grimwood & Dix after its performance had been dragged down by a number of poorly-performing contracts. The firm also suffered from a dispute with a major customer which led to money being withheld from it.

Lindsey Cooper, a partner in the North West Restructuring and Recovery team at Baker Tilly, said: “The closure of Grimwood and Dix was unfortunately the last resort for the company and every effort was made by all concerned to secure the sale of the business before this occurred.

“The issues faced by Grimwood and Dix were further exasperated by the general economic climate and are symptomatic of the pressures that businesses within this sector continue to experience.”
