Textiles group announces change of chairman

William Shannon

Johnson Service Group has announced the Summer departure of its chairman, William (Bill) Shannon.

He has advised the board of the Runcorn-based workwear and textiles supply business that he intends to retire at the conclusion of the company’s AGM to be held in May 2021.

The board said it would like to thank Bill for his significant input and counsel during his years as both a non-executive director and, latterly, as chairman.

The group said John (Jock) Fyfe Lennox will be appointed to the board as an independent non-executive director today and he will assume the role of chairman designate with effect from the same date. The intention is that Jock will step up to the role of chairman following the conclusion of the 2021 AGM.

With his extensive experience as a non-executive director, coupled with his financial background, Jock is a valuable addition to the JSG board, the company said.

He is a Chartered Accountant and, in both his executive career at Ernst & Young and as a non-executive director, he has worked across a range of industrial and consumer sectors, including support services.

Jock, 64, is currently a non-executive director and audit committee chairman of Barratt Developments and was previously chairman of Enquest and Hill & Smith Holdings. He has also served on the boards of Dixons Carphone, Oxford Instruments and A&J Mucklow Group.

He spent his executive career with EY, becoming a partner in 1988, and held a number of leadership roles across all service lines, including as head of industrial products in the UK and globally.

Since leaving EY in 2009, he has developed an active board career sitting on, and leading, boards that have undertaken a range of organic and corporate development and growth strategies.

The group also announced today that it intends to issue a pre-close trading update during the week commencing January 11.
