Developer celebrates completion of two key residential developments

Elisabeth Gardens

Property developer DeTrafford has completed two of its schemes – St George’s and Elisabeth Gardens – with a total of 351 units reaching completion and a particularly personal achievement for its owner.

The Manchester based developer completed on its St George’s scheme last month, the second of the series of developments it is bringing to Castlefield.

Just off Deansgate, residents have moved in at the 138-unit tower that takes its name from the former church it overlooks.

The Grade II-listed building is situated on the Chester Road roundabout, with the development’s modern frames reflecting the gothic façade of the church with grey cladding and texture that provides a sustainable nod to the past.

Each apartment has a private winter garden and there is a communal rooftop garden and bar to socialise and enjoy outdoor space in the heart of the city.

Away from the city centre, DeTrafford has also recently fully completed on Elisabeth Gardens, an Urban Village development in Reddish, which has seen the restoration of 163 one- and two-bedroom apartments within the stunning grand red brick architecture of Elisabeth Mill which dates back to the 19th century.

The village also features 44 two-, three- and four-bedroom three-storey contemporary townhouses, as well as six new-build apartments, all surrounded by communal spaces and views overlooking Houldsworth Golf Course and Reddish Vale Country Park.

With DeTrafford’s owner, Gary Jackson, growing up on a pig farm overlooking the old mill, the scheme is particularly special.

He said: “As a child the mill was a big part of the local community and a big part of my childhood memories, so having the opportunity to breathe life back into it and create places and spaces for people to live and enjoy is amazing.

“The area holds such fond memories for me and my family, it was only right we created something special.”

He added: “The pandemic undoubtedly came with its challenges, but thanks to the dedication of the entire team we managed to achieve two huge milestones in DeTrafford’s history. 2021 is set to be a huge year for DeTrafford and completing both St George’s and Elisabeth Gardens has been a great start to this.”

St George’s was completed by DeTrafford’s in-house construction team, allowing the business to maintain control and manage the health and safety of all its employees, both on and off site.
