Neville has second shot at restaurant

A PROPERTY development business owned by footballer Gary Neville has re-submitted a plan to build a restaurant on a rugby club’s former social building in Swinton just six months after its initial proposal was refused.

Neville and his father Neville Neville have re-submitted the plan through their development company, Signature Development Ltd. It is planning to demolish the former Folly Lane ARLFC Social Club, which has been empty for four years, and build a new 6,000 sq ft restaurant over two floors at the site, which is close to Swinton train station.

In January, planning officers recommended the scheme for approval but following objections from neighbours over parking, traffic and potential noise issues it was thrown out by the committee.

Neighbours have raised similar objections as well as citing an already plentiful supply in the area – citing the fact that there are 78 restaurants within a mile radius of the site.

Despite this, council officers are once again recommending the scheme is approved. They state that the reduction in the number of covers – 100 as opposed to 175 – an improved proposed access area and an increase in the number of available parking spaces (from 11 to 17) should alleviate many of the initial concerns.
