Carlisle food plant recruiting more than 100 staff

Food manufacturer 2 Sisters Food Group is recruiting more than 100 staff at its Carlisle operation.

The jobs drive comes two months after the business took on 500 temporary and permanent staff at its poultry processing plant in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire.

Now, the Cavaghan and Gray prepared meals plant in Carlisle is looking to take on more than 100 staff, including the introduction of an apprenticeship scheme.

This follows the food industry gearing up to meet demand as lockdown restrictions ease.

Added to this is the anticipated seasonal uplift, as new ranges are launched for the summer and autumn seasons.

The site already produces traditional British meals, vegan dishes, prepared vegetables and fried snacking items.

Roles available, spread across several departments include machine setters, line managers, line assistants, frying operatives and preparation operatives.

The apprenticeship scheme is aimed at those wanting to develop their career within the food industry.

The team is offering a wide range of apprenticeships at all levels, starting at a level 2 foundation diploma through to a level 7 advanced degree, with full support provided by apprenticeship partners-Instep.

Apprenticeships offered include in the human resources department, as well as in business administration, food technology and management, leadership, advanced food operative, foundation food operative, engineering electrical and mechanical, and finance.

Sara Murphy, HR business partner at Cavaghan and Gray, said: “These roles have become available as our business continues to grow with consumer demand and underlines our commitment to producing high quality meals which our customers really love.

”This is a great place to work to help feed the nation and for those that show the right attitudes and capabilities, there can be good careers here.

“We have many examples of people who’ve worked their way up through the organisation from production operatives to factory managers.”
