Science in Sport extends partnership with world-leading professional cycling team

INEOS Grenadiers

Manchester-based sports nutrition business Science in Sport has signed a three-year extension to its partnership with INEOS Grenadiers, the British professional cycling team, ranked as one of the world’s most successful cycling teams.

Under the terms of the partnership Science in Sport, which has a manufacturing site in Nelson, East Lancashire, will advise and manage INEOS Grenadiers’ nutrition strategy, with the company’s expert nutritionists embedded in the performance staff of INEOS Grenadiers.

The new agreement continues a successful five year relationship, which has supported INEOS Grenadiers’ seven ‘Grand Tours’ cycling victories.

The embedding of experts within elite sports teams is part of the company’s performance solutions nutrition service, which is designed to elevate athletes to the next level of performance.

The approach, which is science-led, results in the development of highly tailored solutions that cater both for the needs of individuals and the wider team. Significantly, it also includes the development of new products by the AIM-listed company.

Science in Sport is widely considered to be the leading performance nutrition company globally in the areas of product innovation and product quality.

It undertakes category-leading research from its laboratory based at Liverpool John Moores University, developing new products in collaboration with its partner athletes and teams.

Science in Sport has a long association with British cycling, and fuelled Chris Froome’s high profile win at the 2018 Giro d’Italia with a then trial product, ‘Beta Fuel’, which has since become a commercial success.

British cyclist Tao Geoghegan Hart’s Giro d’Italia win in 2020 was similarly supported by a new product, which is to be launched shortly to the public, ahead of the annual Tour de France race in early June.

Sir Dave Brailsford, team principal of INEOS Grenadiers, said: “Nutrition is a vital part of elite sport and in Science in Sport we have a partner who shares our ethos of continual innovation. Together, we’ve been using world leading science to deliver a performance-first approach and build upon a five year relationship that has seen cutting edge products fuel our team to win the biggest races in the sport.

“We’re looking forward to achieving even more with Science in Sport in the future.”

Stephen Moon, Science in Sport chier executive, said: “We are very pleased to be extending our partnership with INEOS Grenadiers, which has worked extremely successfully over the past five years.

“We are world leaders in our sector for science-led product innovation, and our partnerships with elite sport teams and athletes help to drive their success and to highlight the quality and integrity of our products.

“We look forward to continuing to innovate with Britain’s best sports teams and fuel many more Grand Tour cycling wins for INEOS Grenadiers.”
