North West Business Masters 2021 winners revealed

Winners of the 2021 Business Masters Awards

Triumphant firms from across the region were honoured at the 2021 North West Business Masters Awards and Annual Dinner.

The annual award ceremony is a key event in the business calendar, recognising the achievements of companies across the North West.

This year’s awards celebrated firms from a range of sectors including retail, tech, professional services, manufacturing, and property.

The CEO of retailer Timpson, James Timpson OBE, was presented with TheBusinessDesk.com’s prestigious Ambassador award, recognising his progressive hiring practises and employee benefits.

Mr Timpson pioneered the recruitment of ex-offenders and the company now employs more than 600 prison leavers.

Under his ‘upside down leadership’ the company offers mental health support to employees and free holiday homes to foster families and during world menopause day last month he announced that the company will pay for HRT prescriptions for colleagues going through the menopause.

Collecting is award, Mr Timpson spoke of the “powerful impact” businesses could have if they came together for the benefit of society at large.

Nearly 300 guests gathered for the black-tie awards evening at The Midland which was hosted by the TheBusinessDesk.com’s joint managing director Alex Turner and featured interviews with Sam Piccione, Vice President of Oak View Group, the American firm behind Manchester’s new arena, Co-op Live, and Sacha Lord, Greater Manchester’s night time economy adviser and Parklife boss.

The night also raised money for TheBusinessDesk.com’s charity of the year Rekindle which supports young people who suffer from, or are at risk of, mental health through its early intervention support and recovery programme, Small Steps.

Shelina Begum, North West Business Editor, said: “In a year like no other, we wanted to recognise the efforts and showcase the positive work of North West businesses.

“Even with the challenges of the last 18 months – businesses in the region have showed fortitude and determination, working to ensure that operations continued to run as well as innovate and adapt to the changing circumstances to survive – and even thrive – despite the odds.

“However, what it has truly shown across the region is a business community that is willing to support each other, collaborate, and go that extra mile for their customers and importantly for their staff.

“I’d like to also thank our independent judging panel who gave their time to help select all of the finalists.

“It was a fantastic night and as we begin to see a new year on the horizon, I’m pleased to see that so many of the region’s businesses remain optimistic.”
