Public consultation launched on plans for East Didsbury build-to-rent scheme

Proposal for Blackbird Yard

Salford-based Dandara Living is launching a public consultation to gather feedback on proposals for Blackbird Yard, a new build-to-rent residential development at Parrs Wood in East Didsbury.

The proposed development site is located on a currently under-utilised section of the car park at the Parrs Wood Tesco Superstore, in between the A34 Kingsway, Parrs Wood Lane and the Styal Railway Line.

Blackbird Yard will be the latest addition to Dandara Living’s high quality build-to-rent portfolio.

The developer, contractor and operator of large-scale build-to-rent properties owns and manages its sites as a single entity. By taking a ‘whole development’ approach and having dedicated in-house management, build-to-rent ensures a high standard of service to tenants and a proactive approach to management of the entire development, it says.

Approximately 95 new homes will be provided in a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. All of the new homes will be available to rent on long term assured tenancies and managed by Dandara Living, which has also committed to deliver 20% affordable housing within the scheme.

Designed by Manchester architects Hodder and Partners, the proposed building will be seven-storeys in height and arranged in an L-shape.

The scheme includes a flexible community space on the ground floor, with the opportunity for bookable spaces for community events. Landscaping and additional tree planting around the edge of the development will soften the boundaries of the site and encourage biodiversity.

Rachel Allwood, planning director at Dandara Living, said: “Following the success of our Chapel Wharf development in Salford, we’re delighted to be unveiling these proposals to bring a Dandara Living scheme to the thriving East Didsbury community. The site is ideally located with neighbourhood facilities on the doorstep and quick and easy access into the city centre via public transport.

“We appreciate that local people will have questions about our plans. We’re looking forward to discussing our ideas as part of this pre-application consultation and working in partnership with the local community to refine our plans.”

Further information about the East Didsbury proposals can be found at www.blackbirdyard.info and a public drop-in session will be held on December 1, at Didsbury Cricket Club, between 3:30-7:30pm.

Following the consultation period, the proposals will be finalised and a planning application will be submitted to Manchester City Council.
