Planners give nod to housebuilder’s Congleton scheme

Redrow is ready to begin work on a new project in Congleton following planning consent for 454 new homes off Giantswood Lane.

The development will feature a selection of one and two-bedroom apartments and two, three, four and five-bedroom houses, including 79 affordable properties.

A new entrance will be created from Manchester Road forming a tree lined boulevard into the new development.

The first phase of private sale homes is due to go on sale off-plan from Tabley Park in Knutsford this spring.

The go-ahead for this latest 63.5-acre development follows the success of Redrow’s previous Congleton venture, Cranberry Gardens.

Chris Dobson, technical manager at Redrow North West, said: “We listened to feedback from the planning committee and worked with the local authority to make a number of modifications to our original plans.

“This included creating house styles that provide the internal floor space and layouts our customers want , with elevations and detailing derived from local context such as adding gables and chimneys, and introducing bespoke render, timber and stone detailing.

“A lot of attention has been paid to the surface materials and boundary treatments used to ensure that they create character and align with the Cheshire East Design Guide.”

“These include a range of high-quality treatments including walls, railings and soft landscape,” he added.

Areas of the site are earmarked for a new primary school and local shops and will be subject to future planning applications.
