Environmental consultancy, Omnia, is setting up an office in Preston.

The company, which has bases in Nottingham and Portsmouth, said it wants to expand its services to housebuilders and commercial clients.

Omnia specialises in the redevelopment of brownfield sites and rail infrastructure, and director Tim Mitchell said its services are in high demand.

Tim, and managing director Lee McDonald, set up the company in 2014, in Portsmouth, expanding to the Midlands with the creation of a Nottingham base four years later.

The firm now employs more than 30 people, with plans to add more following the Preston office opening.

Tim Mitchell said: “There is a strong demand for housing and the associated commercial services in the North West as more people are drawn to the region with its natural beauty and increasing connectivity.

“It has good international links that continue to be strengthened by increasing investment, especially following the break with the EU and the increased uptake of online sales during the pandemic, which are galvanising the North West as a gateway to the country.”

He added: “And linked to the area’s strong industrial past, there is an increasing redevelopment of brownfield sites and government investment in road and rail infrastructure which all play into the core services that Omnia can offer.”

The company has expanded from a core geo-environmental consultancy into a multi-disciplinary service for the development, construction, infrastructure and transport sectors.

Mr Mitchell said: “Our reputation has really grown by word of mouth as we were increasingly recommended by housebuilders and our commercial clients.”

The new office is at Preston’s Millennium City Park, near the M6 junction with easy access to Lancaster, Manchester, Liverpool and beyond, and with space for the company’s planned growth.

The base was ideal because of the amount of development taking place in the region, including the £200m Preston Western Distributor link road to the M55, which is key to ongoing housing growth and commercial schemes to the west of the city, said Tim.
