Liverpool Edge gets green light for student flats

THE man behind the Hope Street Hotel in Liverpool has won approval for a new upmarket student scheme close to the Philharmonic Hall.

David Brewitt’s Liverpool Edge development company, which he owns with Alan Beer, submitted a proposal to convert a former Grade II listed orphanage on Sugnall St and a neighbouring building on Myrtle St into 88 student flats containing a total of 228 bedrooms.

A vacant portion of the site is to be redeveloped as a seven-storey building with more student accomodation, while ground floor units will be let as restaurants, bars and shops.

Despite some opposition from nearby residents the plans have been backed by planning officers, subject to certain amendments.  These include payments to compensate for a loss of open space, for the installation of a new crossing and to give an undertaking that all residents will be informed that they won’t be entitled to a parking permit.
