HCA lays out Cottam Hall plans

PLANS unveiled by the Homes & Communities for a masterplan to develop 1,000 homes in the Cottam Hall area north of Preston have been tweaked following a consultation exercise.

The agency has worked up a masterplan that will provide the bluepring for the development of 1,000 homes for the site. This follows an earlier proposal for the area to build a new supermarket, housing and offices at a former brickworks site nearby by Cottam Hall Properties, which were approved last month.

The agency said that more than 100 people attended events to showcase the latest masterplan for the site. More than 90% of attendees were happy with the proposals, and suggestions made on methods for improving the scheme are being incorporated.

These include revisions to the layout of the homes  in a bid to reduce density, new space for a community facility, better greenways and cycle lanes, improvements to bus routes and making sure that at least 30% of homes are earmarked for affordable housing.

Deborah McLaughlin, executive director North West at the HCA, said: “These events were all about listening to the community and taking their views.

“Through this valuable feedback, we now have a great masterplan for Cottam Hall that will help the area evolve into a high-quality environment for local people.”

The HCA said that it now planned to submit an outline planning application later this year.
