Thaxted Capital, the Manchester-based specialist small case litigation funder, has secured a £25m committed investment to support its launch and future growth.

The funding is from US private equity institutional investor Sandton Capital Partners.

Thaxted Capital is a new entrant to the litigation funding market focused on single case funding of £1m or less with a unique regional focus across the North and Midlands.

Led by partner Jack Bradley-Seddon, a former litigator in the London office of the US law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, the Thaxted Capital team has extensive litigation experience.

Further support is provided by barrister Justina Stewart of Outer Temple Chambers. Justina is ranked as a Leading Junior in Commercial Litigation/Commercial Dispute Resolution, Banking and Finance, Financial Services Regulation and Insolvency.

She is also appointed to the Attorney General’s Panel of Junior Counsel to the Crown. Jack is from Stockport, and Justina was at school in Manchester.

Jack Bradley-Seddon, said: “I am thrilled to be working with Sandton to launch Thaxted Capital. Historically, litigation funding options for businesses in the North have been limited to London-based funders, but we are looking to change this.

“We support cases with a funding commitment of up to £1m, charging on multiples of deployed capital and, therefore, offering a capped return.”

Matt Meehan, head of Sandton UK, said: “The litigation industry is a competitive and evolving sector and we’re excited to be partnering with Jack to bring a differentiated litigation funding opportunity to market.

“One of Thaxted Capital’s key differences is their strong regional presence and expertise of small case funding, backed with a world class team. Jack is focused on establishing Thaxted Capital as a leader in the UK financial and business industry and we are delighted to support him.”
