Alfreds Bar & Dine

Hydes Brewery has relaunched the Mandarina Bar & Kitchen in Macclesfield and reopened as Alfreds Bar & Dine, following a £100,000 investment.

The facelift at the premium bar, part of the Hydes estate for more than 20 years, includes an interior refurb, new signage plus a colour scheme complementing all the features and feel of a lively, contemporary, suburban bar. The new name Alfreds Bar & Dine, is in recognition of Alfred Hyde, who co-founded Hydes brewery with his brother Ralf in 1863.

Louise Anderson, who joined Hydes in the early 2000s before becoming the general manager at the Mandarina seven years ago, will continue to lead the strong bar and kitchen team, which has also introduced a revamped food offering.

Managing Director of Hydes Brewery, Adam Mayers, said: “As our only establishment in Macclesfield, Alfreds boasts a modern new look and feel which will be in keeping with the wider Hydes offering while maintaining a lot of its successful qualities, as a popular bar in the area, we’re confident that customers will enjoy the new look, feel and name.

“We really want them to experience the welcoming atmosphere of a typical Hydes pub, coupled with a contemporary twist. This is the latest in a series of planned refurbishments across the Hydes estate over the next 12 months.”

With its brewery in Media City, Salford, Hydes was originally formed in 1863 and supplies beers to pub companies, wholesalers and other brewers throughout the UK and has a pub retailing estate of more than 40 pubs across the North West of England and North Wales.

Graeme Nicholson, Heineken, and Angela Hodson of Lancashire Cricket

Lancashire Cricket has announced a five-year extension with Heineken, the official beer and cider partner of Emirates Old Trafford.

A long standing partner of the club since 2016, Heineken will retain the pouring rights for Emirates Old Trafford across concourse, hospitality, hotel and conference and events areas of the stadium.

This new partnership will see Heineken supply a host of its beer and cider products inside the stadium. Heineken 0.0 will also be stocked across all bars inside the stadium, as Lancashire Cricket and Heineken recognise the growing need to offer zero percent alcohol alternatives to all guests.

Heineken’s ongoing support is an important factor in the new development at Emirates Old Trafford, which is set to be completed in 2023, and includes investment in new bar areas and improvements inside the stadium.

Daniel Gidney, chief executive at Lancashire Cricket, said: “We are thrilled to extend our long standing relationship with Heineken, who play an integral role in the matchday experience for members and supporters attending Emirates Old Trafford.”

Graeme Nicholson, sales director at Heineken, said: “We have been so impressed with the club’s vision for Emirates Old Trafford since 2016 and we are excited to play our part in giving fans an unparalleled experience in a world class venue.”

The West Chester Commercial Business Improvement District (BID) will continue for a second term after the majority of members delivered a yes vote from June’s ballot.

It said 75% of businesses voted in favour by number, while 76% voted in favour by rateable value, with the result guaranteeing added value investment of more than £500,000 over the next five years to further enhance Sealand Road Industrial Estate and Chester West Employment Park.

BID 2 will get under way on September 1, 2022, the day after the first term comes to an end and will run until August 31, 2027. Since launching in 2017, a range of projects and initiatives have been delivered across a number of themes to not only provide their members with an environment that they can flourish in but the tools, help and guidance needed to make that possible.

Development of a dedicated estate-wide CCTV project for the BID area had got under way, with June’s yes vote now meaning this can come to fruition. Going forward, the BID team will continue to deliver projects under the three themes of ‘A safer more resilient business community,’ ‘Greener and more sustainable’ and ‘A connected and supported business community.’

Groundwork’s deputy director for BIDs and Business Services, who manage the West Chester BID Project, said: “To know that so many West Chester BID businesses are on board with the project and believe in what we’re trying to achieve is fantastic to see, and we can’t wait to build upon the achievements of the first five years. We’re proud of what has been delivered so far but this is only the beginning.”

Liverpool-based Impact Data Metrics, the AI-driven technology firm, is to launch a new product which it believes can revolutionise the way investment decisions are made across the public and private sectors.

Designed for local authorities, Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs), investors in the knowledge economy and real estate and regeneration professionals, the new product combines Impact Data Metrics’ unique database company operating premises, including both registered and non-registered businesses, such as sole traders, with a user-friendly interface.

In the run up to the launch this month the company has demonstrated IDM Business to the marketplace at international real estate conference MIPIM and at UK REiiF in Leeds, generating significant interest.

Chief executive, Neil Murray, said: “Business is the DNA of a city, town or region’s economy – all aspects of that economy are fundamentally driven by the make up of the business base. Until now, it’s not been possible to truly understand the UK’s operating business base in detail, at the local level. IDM Business delivers this to the market for the first time.

“If you’re a local authority it enables informed policy making. If you are a property developer it informs, ‘buy’, ‘sell’ and ‘hold’ decisions on assets. If you’re a planner, then it informs decision making about the built environment and what buildings should be built where, to support the business base. If you’re involved in innovation, it enables you to explore clusters around particular sectors, technologies and capabilities. Similarly if you’re in education, then it drives the local skills agenda.”

Jonathan Reynolds, right

The first National Manufacturing Day was celebrated at Booth Industries in Bolton last week with a visit from Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Jonathan Reynolds.

World-renowned provider of multi-protection doorsets, Booth Industries, along with manufacturers around the UK, opened its doors to give the local community a behind the scenes look at the facility and to showcase the range of highly skilled jobs on offer in the industry. Organised by the manufacturers’ organisation MAKE UK, National Manufacturing Day aimed to attract more local talent into the industry and demonstrate the value of manufacturing apprenticeships.

Following a tour of Booth’s facilities and a demonstration of its activities, Mr Reynolds said: “Manufacturing is a vibrant, growth sector and on Make UK’s first National Manufacturing Day I am delighted to experience first-hand the opportunities that are available, as well as speaking to some of the apprentices at Booth Industries – a company that has been a part of the local community for generations.”

Established in 1873 Booth Industries specialises in certified engineered and bespoke multi-protection doorsets. Acquired out of administration in 2019, it has undergone an impressive turnaround under its new owners, securing a wealth of new contracts and delivering on some of the UK’s most recent, high profile projects including the new London underground Elizabeth Line and HS2.

Mike Jenkinson, managing director at Booth Industries, said National Manufacturing Day is a great way to showcase the wonderful opportunities in manufacturing to the wider community, including local schools, and is a chance to inspire students and promote the industry as a potential career path.
