Bus strikes suspended as Stagecoach workers consider revised pay offer

Planned bus strikes by members of trade union Unite at Stagecoach Merseyside, scheduled for Friday July 15, and Monday July 18, have been suspended to allow workers to be balloted on a new pay deal.

Following extensive negotiations held on Wednesday this week a new pay offer was agreed between Stagecoach’s management and Unite.

Unite regional officer, Dave Roberts, said: “Following a significantly improved offer from Stagecoach, Unite has suspended the two forthcoming one day strikes in order to ballot its members on the new offer.”

If workers reject the deal then the all-out continuous strike action due to begin on Wednesday, July 20, will go ahead as planned.

Approximately 370 bus workers based at the company’s Gilmoss depot are involved in the dispute.

An initial one day strike was held in the dispute on Monday, July 4.
