New care home plans will create 70 jobs for Lancashire town

CGI of proposed development

Cheshire property firm, Muller Property Group, is aiming to build a 70-bed residential care home on almost an acre of brownfield land in Clitheroe, Lancashire.

The Crewe-based business has applied for planning permission for the site, which involves the demolition of existing buildings.

The plans, aimed at people with nursing and dementia needs, will offer en-suite facilities for all rooms, associated access, car parking and landscaping and will create approximately 70 jobs.

The scheme will also include facilities such as a cinema, hair and nail salon, café/bistro, plus day spaces with varying functions for residents.

All residents will benefit from communal amenities and landscaped areas.

The site, on Pendle Road, west of the junction to Highmoor Park, is currently occupied by a furniture showroom and its associated car park, a warehouse, a schoolwear mail order business, together with some empty buildings.

Colin Muller, Muller Property Group chief executive, said: “The provision of registered care accommodation for the elderly in the area around Pendle Mill is inadequate.

“There is an immediate requirement for an additional 300 elderly care beds in the area with a limited existing supply of only 170 care beds with en-suite amenities.”

The current site

He added: “There is a well documented shortfall of appropriate housing for care exceeding 200 bedspaces across the wider Pendle area.

“The existing property is now outdated for modern use, but is a well-located and highly sustainable site and is within easy walking distance to the town centre of Clitheroe.

“It is, therefore, well placed for a care home and such a facility will serve the local community with care facilities, serve social needs and create new jobs in the area for local people.”
