A topping out ceremony has been held at a 51-storey Salford residential tower block by property developer Renaker and real estate investment, development and management company, Cortland.

Cortland at Colliers Yard in Greengate, will offer 559 one-, two- and three-bedroom rental apartments when it opens its doors to residents in autumn 2023.

The glass-clad tower will offer more than 25,000 sq ft of high quality amenity space which has been designed by renowned interior design firm Lister & Lister.

It also boasts a three-storey brick podium which will include shops, restaurants and bars. The project will also deliver new public realm which will be open to both residents and the neighbourhood.

Forming part of the wider Greengate regeneration, Cortland at Colliers Yard is in a sought after location just minutes away from Harvey Nichols, Selfridges and Manchester’s central retail district.

The topping out ceremony marked an exciting step in both the wider Greengate masterplan and Salford City Council’s cultural ambition to deliver an aspirational neighbourhood to both Salford and Manchester city centre.

Representatives from the council, including Salford City Mayor Paul Dennett, and Greater Manchester Combined Authority, including CEO Eamonn Boylan, were joined by the Renaker and Cortland teams to mark the achievement.

Daren Whitaker, MD at Renaker, said: “To have reached this key stage of the project on schedule, despite the difficulties of the recent pandemic, is a fantastic achievement and testament to the huge efforts of the whole team.

“This landmark project is another key step in our wider regeneration plans.”

Victoria Quinlan, president – Europe at Cortland, said: “This is a significant milestone in the construction of Cortland at Colliers Yard. It has only been made possible through the hard work and dedication of our teams, and strong partnership with Renaker. We look forward to welcoming the first residents to our build-to-rent scheme and having them experience our unique, resident-centric approach.”

Paul Dennett said: “Greengate is the original historic centre of Salford and in the mid 1800s some two thirds of the city’s population lived in the Greengate district.

“The pace of transformation across Greengate over recent years has been astonishing, with the area once again establishing itself an incredibly popular, high density, mixed use community, providing thousands of high quality new homes to support our significant levels of population growth and local businesses.”

Financial support in the form of a development loan of a combined £64m from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority and the Greater Manchester Pension Fund has helped Renaker deliver this development, providing significant employment and training opportunities for local people.

Colliers Yard will comprise three carefully curated towers ranging from 43-51 storeys high, each housing a mix of apartments and penthouses, as well as extensive public realm for the local community including a new public park, a tree-lined boulevard and a new public square which will re-frame local landmark and Grade II-listed building Collier Street Baths.
