Lancaster House Hotel has promoted Lynn Porter and Harry Newton as deputy managers, both of whom have risen through the ranks from junior positions.

Harry, 27, from Lancaster, started at the hotel on the bar staff in 2016, before becoming assistant restaurant and banqueting manager and progressing to restaurant and bar manager.

Meanwhile, 39-year-old Lynn, from Keswick, started her career at the hotel as a waitress in 2010 and has won a series of promotions. She has worked her way up as restaurant and banqueting supervisor and as a receptionist on the front desk. She subsequently became reception manager culminating with her latest role overseeing the day-to-day operations of the hotel.

The promotions of Lynn and Harry follow a restructuring process under recently appointed general manager Emma Underwood, who is overseeing a modernisation programme at the hotel run by English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues.

Harry said: “When I first started in the hospitality industry, I had no inkling of where it might take me. This is an exciting new management role for us both and we’re looking forward to helping Emma take the venue forward, expand our corporate and conferencing offer and maintain the high standards we set ourselves for guests.”

Emma Underwood said: “It’s really important to us that staff can see a path for career progression within the group and the appointment of Lynn and Harry as deputy managers shows what is possible.

“Both started in relatively junior roles but have proved themselves as real assets with strong managerial skills to support our efforts and inspire the team to deliver highly enjoyable stays for our guests.”

Joining the firm as a senior associate in 2016, David regularly advises local and national clients on a range of corporate work, including acquisitions and disposals, reorganisations, private equity and joint ventures.

The news comes amidst a period of rapid growth at the firm, which has added 34 people to its ranks since June 2022. Six join David at the Liverpool office – head of Liverpool office and corporate partner Kieran Donovan, property litigation senior associate Jennifer Rogers, litigation solicitor Anna Abell, conveyancing solicitor Gareth Jones, employment trainee solicitor Megan Parker and corporate legal assistant Mike Hulme.

Napthens’ conveyancing department saw the largest influx with 10 new additions – employment and corporate both welcomed three members of the team, while commercial property and wills and estate planning each made two new hires. Meanwhile, the facilities, family and litigation teams made one hire each.

Kieran Donovan, partner and head of the Liverpool office, said: “This year has been one of the most exciting periods of growth at Napthens. We’ve been delivering outstanding results for our clients and this is reflected in how quickly our teams are expanding to meet the high demand we’re receiving for our services. David’s promotion comes at a pivotal time for our Liverpool office, where we will be providing crucial advice and support to our clients as we enter a period of economic uncertainty.”

David Carr said: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the past six years at Napthens working alongside Gareth McIntegart and now Kieran, and have seen both our corporate department and the Liverpool office grow considerably in that time.

“We’ve had back-to-back record years in terms of dealmaking, and we have grown our Liverpool office since its establishment by Gareth in 2018 to a flourishing team of 20 lawyers across a variety of disciplines. It’s something we’re all proud to have played a part in and I’m looking forward to adding to that story in my role as a partner, as we continue building relationships and providing a quality service to our clients and connections in the North West and beyond.”

Broadway Insurance Brokers has moved to bolster its senior ranks with the appointment of one of Karen Waugh.

She has joined after two years leading the private client division in the North of England for one of Europe’s largest brokers, Verlingue.

Broadway’s chief executive, Daniel Lloyd-John, has described her arrival as “a major coup” which will strengthen the firm’s support for entrepreneurs and the high net worth community.

Daniel Lloyd-John

He added that being able to recruit talent from much bigger competitors underlined Broadway’s growing status with peers and clients alike: “Since we launched two years ago, we have been extremely fortunate to attract very capable personnel who have almost immediately enhanced what we do.

“Karen’s arrival is very much in the same vein. She is another incredibly strong performer with a hugely impressive track record working with the sort of businesses and private individuals who now regard Broadway as their risk management advisor of choice. It’s a tremendously exciting time for us all and this latest news bodes very well for the future. I have little doubt that we’ll be expanding still further in the coming months.”

Ms Waugh has arrived at Broadway as client executive, four decades after starting her career with the Rochdale brokerage founded by her father. She then spent 14 years with Finch Insurance Brokers prior to switching to Verlingue as head of private client services in the North of England.
