San Carlo Liverpool to undergo 12 week £3.5m makeover

Proposed restaurant space

Liverpool’s San Carlo restaurant, which has been open since 2009, is set to close early next month ahead of a £3.5m makeover.

The Castle Street location will close its doors on January 2, and will be closed for approximately 12 weeks while the transformation, the first across the group, will take place.

The new look will see a dramatic shift from the bold black and red interiors to more modern surroundings that ooze opulence and sophistication, taking aesthetic inspiration from beautiful settings of Italy.

The project will involve stripping out the venue’s entire interior, altering the layout, adding a new private dining room and completely changing the look and feel of the space.

The interiors will take inspiration from grand Milanese villas and gardens with a colour palette that draws inspiration from the coastline of Northern Italy.

Bespoke frescos artwork by LA-based artist Jessalyn Brooks will adorn the walls, while the light and fresh interior includes details and finishes reminiscent of classic Italian mid-century furniture.

Managing director, Marcello Distefano, said: “Our Liverpool venue has held a special place within our group and the city has been so good to us over the years – we’ve built up an incredibly local customer base of city dwellers, tourists, famous faces and sport stars.

“We are very excited that Liverpool will be the first of our new look San Carlo Restaurants.

Proposed private dining facilities

“Our much-loved venue will undergo a complete facelift, transforming the aesthetic into the most breathtakingly beautiful modern setting. We look forward to inviting in diners old and new to experience a new phase for us which will boast the same sophistication and charm as ever before, combined with a stunning new look.”

The venue first opened in 2009, making it one of the most popular dining destinations in the city for the past 13 years. The closure will take place after San Carlo’s New Year’s Eve closing event featuring live acts.
