Princes Parade, Liverpool Waters

A planning application has been submitted to build a private hospital at Peel L&P’s £5.5bn Liverpool Waters project.

‘The City Hospital’ is a collaboration of well established Liverpool medical practices, including renowned senior consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon Mr Ali Juma, and Dr Arun Ghosh, owner of a primary care facility on Rodney Street.

The proposed new hospital will be based at Princes Dock and will offer a range of treatments and procedures, including plastic and reconstructive surgery, general surgery, gastroenterology, ear nose and throat surgery (ENT), dermatology, and GP services, all offering a wealth of experience aided by the latest medical technology.

The operating theatres in The City Hospital will be equipped with the latest in digital technology including multi-screen displays and 4k cameras, enabling live interactive surgical collaborations and training opportunities both nationally and internationally.

A state-of-the-art Training Academy will be incorporated within The City Hospital providing training in surgical and non-surgical treatments and procedures.

Mr Ali Juma

The City Hospital plans to recruit and train nurses from around the world, enabling them to thrive within the local healthcare market, providing a much needed boost to nursing numbers in the UK.

Mr Ali Juma, a co-proprietor and lead surgeon at The City Hospital, will bring together a team of highly experienced and skilled multi-speciality consultants and specialist surgeons to drive innovations in surgery across the North West.

He said: “The City Hospital Princes Dock is planned with the sole purpose of providing a high end multi-speciality safe medical and surgical facilities to the local community of Liverpool and the North West.

“The Training Academy is a lifelong ambition of disseminating and sharing knowledge whilst learning from others’ experiences.”

Dr Arun Ghosh, chief executive of Ghosh Medical Group, said: “Our proposed new hospital at Liverpool Waters is a very exciting opportunity for the people of Liverpool, we can offer an alternative, enhancing Liverpool’s capacity in terms of beds, nurses and doctors.

“Our location at Princes Dock will provide a secure, clean, and safe environment for our patients, with the waterside setting creating a calming environment for patients pre and post treatment. Access from the car park into the building will also be very easy for patients and staff with a surface car park just outside the main entrance.”

He added: “Through this multimillion-pound investment in new state of the art medical facilities we have ambitions to attract the best talent from around the world to Liverpool. This means that The City Hospital will be good news for patients and for the wider community across Liverpool and the North West.

“Once approved, we will begin our fit out immediately and hope to have The City Hospital fully open by early summer 2023.”

Liza Marco, senior asset manager at Peel L&P’s Liverpool Waters, said: “It’s great to see Liverpool Waters attracting a world class medical facility. It’s an ideal site for The City Hospital because Princes Dock is a very accessible city centre location with excellent transport links and plenty of car parking so it’s very easy for staff and patients to get to.

“We are continuing to create a diverse and mixed-use destination at Princes Dock and this development will bring something brand new, with everything from scuba diving to medical care available for local residents and the wider community.”
