Construction work begins on luxury 500-apartment scheme

Wigan-based property business, The Heaton Group, has started construction work on a 500-apartment residential scheme between Manchester city centre and MediaCity.
The site, at Ordsall Lane, will be home to Berkeley Square, Salford, a new luxury development of one- two- and three-bedroom apartments, centred around a landscaped square, with luxury apartments overlooking Salford and the River Irwell.
The West Block of the development is estimated for completion in June 2026, with the East Block set to follow in December 2026, and apartments have been released for sale as the construction starts.
Heaton Group managing director, John Heaton, said: “Berkeley Square will connect the convenience of city living with the benefits of green space where a strong sense of community can be built amongst residents.
“Creating a community is at the heart of what we do, and Berkeley Square is the latest project in our portfolio to reflect that.
“With almost £1bn being invested into Salford and MediaCity, now is the perfect opportunity to invest in the area.”
Designed by architects Fletcher Rae, Berkeley Square will be a secure community, aimed at professionals, families and first-time buyers looking for a conveniently located modern home with excellent transport links.
Property finance specialists, Together, supported the Heaton Group with financing the acquisition of the site.
Ritchie Watson, corporate lending director at Together, said: “The Heaton Group brought the initial proposal to us in June last year, when we provided funding towards the group’s acquisition of the site. We worked closely with their team and solicitors, liaising with valuers and consultants to smoothly deliver the finance needed for such a large and complex site.”
The start of construction on Berkeley Square marks what is set to be a busy year for The Heaton Group, with completion also expected on current projects Urban Green in Trafford and The Exchange in Preston.
Berkeley Square will be launched with Manchester based Alliance Investments leading the sales and marketing of the development. Managing director, Ronald Garrett, said: “Our team are delighted to be partnering with The Heaton Group on the sale of apartments within Berkeley Square – our third project with them.”
