Appointments: Trio joins Barclays; UCLAN Business School confirms dean; Hassall is law library president
BARCLAYS has made a trio of appointments to its North West property team.
Chris Swarbrick joins as commercial director from Royal Bank of Scotland and will head the Manchester property team.
Based in Manchester since 2005, he spent eight years with RBS and carried out a number of different roles including head of business development, corporate property North West and large corporate relationship director.
Paul Devenport joins as senior relationship director and will be responsible for leading a team of three property directors across the North West and North Wales.
Based in Liverpool, he was previously at Bank of Scotland where he ran the Corporate Real Estate Finance team for Merseyside. His focus will be to develop new business for Barclays.
Finally, Matt Jones has been appointed as senior relationship director, also joining from RBS where he spent 24 years in a variety of roles, most recently in the Corporate Real Estate Finance team. Based in Manchester, his emphasis will be on business development.
David Hardcastle, head of Property Finance in the North for Barclays, said: “Notwithstanding the challenging times we all find ourselves in, we are delighted to welcome Chris, Paul and Matt on board. They significantly strengthen our property finance team in the North West, helping to achieve Barclays regional growth ambitions.”

THE University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) han appointed Dharma Kovvuri as dean of its Business School.
Mr Kovvuri, 41, has been acting dean since December 2008 and will now take on the role permanently.
Mr Kovvuri, who is a graduate of UCLan and left the university in 1993, worked in retail management for Sainsburys before working in education. He led the Business School’s international developments in his previous post as associate director.
He said: “The school’s mission is to educate and develop society’s future business leaders and entrepreneurs and our agenda, as defined by future plans in higher education, is to provide such development in partnership with business.
“We are well set to respond to this as we already have excellent links with business and work flexibly in delivering programmes. We want to continue building our reputation as a responsive Business School that works closely with business to meet the needs of the economy and society.”

JONATHAN Hassall, a partner in Linder Myers solicitors, has been appointed president of the Manchester Incorporated Law Library.
The library, on Kennedy Street in Manchester city centre, offers membership to solicitors, barristers and academics. Its collection includes a vast range of legal books dating back to the 17th century. Modern law books, law reports, statutes and journals are available on loan.
In 2010 the library celebrates the 190th anniversary of its foundation.
As a solicitor, Mr Hassall specialises in intellectual property issues and insolvency. He joined Linder Myers as a partner in 2007.
He said: “The Manchester Incorporated Law Library and its fine building are part of Manchester’s history. However the library continues to provide a vital service to the legal profession in the North West and I am determined to lead the development of that service to ensure that the library remains relevant in the 21st century.”
