Blackburn logistics site bedrock of Science in Sport strategy

Sport in Science, made in Blackburn

Sports nutrition company Science in Sport grew revenues by 1.5% to £63.5m (FY2021: £62.7m) last financial year.

The business credited a stronger margin performance in the second half of the year to a new logistics site in Blackburn delivering efficiencies and cost savings.

The company has also undergone a “wide-ranging restructuring” of the business, including a protein bar production line in Blackburn.

The US business has recently transferred to The Feed, an online distributor of endurance nutrition brands in North America and a strategic partnership has been agreed for the Amazon Marketplace business with Flywheel Digital.

Since the business was founded in 1992, Science in Sport has supplied Olympic athletes including World Record Holders and World Champions.

Led by Professor James Morton, the business works with sport science laboratories, accessed via a long-standing partnership with Liverpool John Moores University, to increase capacity for bespoke research trials and product innovation.

The brand was listed on the AIM market in August 2013.
