Preston’s Stoneygate Central development receives planning approval

Stoneygate Central

Stoneygate Central will kick-start the first significant scheme in the Stoneygate Masterplan, following planning permission being granted by Preston City Council.

Two buildings of six residential accommodation blocks, including retail space, will create an urban village with the building design creating a new statement of Preston’s future as a major urban centre.

Located between Grimshaw Street and Manchester Road, both of which are key regeneration corridors, the site was identified as a suitable location for a new landmark building within the Stoneygate Regeneration Framework.

Comprising 469 apartments and maisonettes, with 129 of these aimed at the over-55’s market, residents will enjoy a cinema room, lounges, library and a roof terrace.
The development also focuses on a high quality public realm aiming to create buoyant external spaces. A cafe terrace area and retail units at ground level will create active street scenes encouraging a vibrant lifestyle destination.

Behind the scheme design is Preston-based David Cox Architects, working for developer, Stoneygate Living.

David Cox, director at David Cox Architects, said: “Receiving unanimous approval for this significant development is testament to the council’s ambitions for the Stoneygate area.

“From the outset we wanted to create living accommodation for a mix of people, creating consumer demand for a range of amenities and city centre activities. The design reflects this ambition, and the team has produced a scheme which will bring vibrancy and a new lease of life to the area.”

The wider project team also includes planning consultant Cassidy + Ashton, drainage consultant PSA Design, energy consultant Zero3, heritage expert C J O’Flaherty and transport expert Cora IHT. TPM Landscape is the landscape architect for the project and Martin Environmental Services is the noise consultant.
