Printers draws up its future with £50,000 EFG loan

PRINTERS Mitchell and Wright has secured a £50,000 loan to support its expansion plans.

The Southport-based business intends to dramatically increase its range of environmentally-friendly printing techniques on the back of the loan from NatWest.

The working capital package has been secured through the bank via the government-backed Enterprise Finance Guarantee (EFG) scheme.

Graham Byrne and Andy Gibbons acquired the long-standing business in November following the retirement of husband and wife team Keith and Nicky Mitchell.

The company recently secured Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) certification, a system that promotes responsible forestry and ensures that materials used by the firm can be traced back to their forest of origin.

To date, only 7% of the UK’s 13,000 print firms have achieved FSC certification.

Graham Byrne, managing director at Mitchell and Wright, said: “Before we look at future opportunities to develop the business it is important to ensure that we have the right funding structures in place.

“Securing FSC certification is a great boost for the business and we are keen to explore ways in which we can enhance the range of sustainable products and services that we can offer our customers.”

Established in 1935, Mitchell and Wright is one of the North West’s oldest printing businesses.

The company offers a full design, print and finishing service and its product range includes leaflets, brochures, booklets, business cards and printed stationary.

The business, which operates from a 12,000 sq ft base in Southport, employs 28 people and has a turnover of £2m.

The NatWest Business and Commercial team based in Liverpool provided funding to Mitchell and Wright.

Relationship Manager Jeff Cummins, said: “Prior to the management buy-out Graham and Andy were heavily involved in the day to day running of the business and are experienced operators in this market.

“They have a clear vision for the future of Mitchell and Wright and we are happy to support their plans.”
