A £7m retrofit contract has been awarded by South Lakes Housing to Dyson Energy Services, as part of the Cumbria Consortium.

The contract spans a two-year period and positions Liverpool-based Dyson Energy Services as the trusted delivery partner for the scheme.

The retrofit project, funded by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero through the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) Wave two, aims to enhance energy efficiency in the social sector and contribute to the Government’s target of achieving an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of ‘C’ for all homes by 2030.

Dyson Energy Services will retrofit a total of 905 properties with a range of measures, including solar PV, cavity wall insulation upgrades, loft insulation, heating upgrades, and energy-efficient lighting, all compliant with the rigorous PAS 2035 standards.

Residents of the treated properties can look forward to a multitude of benefits resulting from the retrofit project including savings on energy bills, a reduced carbon footprint, and homes that are future-proofed against rising energy costs.

By aligning with the Government’s broader agenda to meet net-zero targets, Dyson Energy Services will actively contribute to lower carbon emissions, helping create a sustainable and greener future.

As part of the contract award, Dyson will open a new unit in Kendal. The company will collaborate with Kendal College to educate learners in relation to the energy efficiency industry and the opportunities within the green sector.

Gayle Salt, director of curriculum at Kendal College, said: “The working collaboration between Dyson Energy Services and Kendal College will enable the curriculum to be responsive to the green skills agenda and the skill development required for future practice within the energy sector. Working closely together will enable fantastic opportunities for our learners and apprentices in terms of employability opportunities and career progression.”

Jamie Crane, head of business development at Dyson Energy Services, said: “With over 40 years of experience in the energy efficiency sector, Dyson is committed to delivering high quality solutions that benefit both residents and the environment. This contract win aligns with our continued growth strategy and dedication to supporting the Government’s ambitious net-zero targets.”

Richard Hayes, director of homes at South Lakes Housing, said: “The community will stand to benefit through Dyson’s investment in a local base, recruiting local talent and providing opportunities for learners at Kendal College.”
