Global infrastructure services firm AECOM has opened a new office in Salford which will accommodate almost 600 staff.

The 100 Embankment site was officially opened by Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham.

The new location links AECOM with its people and clients across the city region, reinforcing its commitment to the North, it said.

AECOM has taken 20,000 sq ft on the site, which is owned by Salford City Council.

The office has undergone an interior revamp in line with AECOM’s purpose driven workplace, enabling the experience at each location to reflect and celebrate the local community and culture in the workplace, promoting sustainability and supporting AECOM’s Freedom to Grow initiative.

AECOM offers flexible, hybrid work options for all employees through Freedom to Grow, which supports staff in finding the balance and flexibility they need to do their best.

The 100 Embankment building is an energy-efficient location featuring solar panels, a BREEAM Excellent rating, 62 cycle racks and showers.

The large windows offer plenty of natural sunlight and panoramic views of Manchester. There’s a roof terrace that can be adapted for social and business events and offers a pleasant change of scenery for meetings.

The space can also be used for exercise classes such as yoga, promoting mental and physical wellbeing. The terrace and viewing deck can accommodate almost 250 people, meaning it’s a great space to host staff and client events.

Manchester is the largest and fastest growing city region economy outside London, with a gross value added (GVA) of £74.85bn and AECOM said its new office will support clients at a local, national and global level, with consultancy services covering AECOM’s primary business lines of Buildings + Places, Transportation, and Environment, Water and Energy.

Andy Burnham said: “To have AECOM enhancing their presence here in Salford is another strong vote of confidence in our city region. Our partners recognise what this place has to offer right now and can also see the journey we’re on, and it’s great to see AECOM renewing their own commitment to Greater Manchester today.”

Paul Dennett, elected City Mayor of Salford, said: “Our vision in supporting the creation of 100 Embankment was this to transform a derelict space into high quality, green office space where workers can thrive, creating jobs and extra wealth for Salford and Greater Manchester.”

AECOM Europe and India chief executive, Colin Wood, said: “This has been a hugely exciting move for AECOM and there is a palpable buzz in the office as staff enjoy the workplace interior, its location and views over the city.

“Our presence in Greater Manchester grows every year and we work across the wider region supporting clients on projects such as the University of Salford, Liverpool Royal NHS University Trust, Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), Golborne Station Masterplan and the Greater Manchester Bee Network Cycling and Walking improvements.

“Our staff get to make a meaningful impact in their own city region, as the centre of the North, driving sustainable change. I’m immensely proud of our new office and know the work undertaken there will contribute enormously locally and support delivery of the Northern Powerhouse vision, particularly in terms of skills and global competitiveness.”
