Council to re-assess plans for 130-home development

Liverpool-based developer BXB Thornton says Wyre Council will re-assess its application for 130 new homes on Fleetwood Road North in Thornton Cleveleys this Wednesday (July 5).
The application had twice been deferred and then refused, despite recommendations to approve by planning officers. It has been resubmitted, emphasising the green infrastructure and ecology proposals and the commitment to delivering affordable housing.
The joint venture between brownfield land specialist BXB and Liverpool-based Promenade Estates also confirmed that it has agreed the sale of the site to national registered housing provider, Places for People, which will deliver the homes for affordable rent and shared ownership, subject to receipt of planning approval.
Gary Goodman, BXB director, said: “We have re-visited the proposals following further discussions with the planning officers. They have recommended the scheme for approval twice, but local representatives wanted us to think again on a couple of issues and we were pleased to do so.
“These are tricky times for home owners, with a measure of economic uncertainty and rising mortgage rates, so delivering new affordable rental homes will provide a socially valuable route for families seeking high quality homes.”
If approved, the scheme will deliver a new link road into the Hillhouse enterprise zone, with added emphasis on green infrastructure and biodiversity enhancement.
Nilam Buchanan, regional managing director for Central and North, Places for People, said: “We all know we need more homes, and as placemakers, we’re committed to building and maintaining homes that positively improve the lives of our current and future customers.
“Our high quality, energy-efficient, modern developments are designed to reflect the local vernacular and remain sympathetic to the communities they inhabit. We have a responsibility to build new affordable housing, so we’re going to keep going so that our communities have homes they can be proud of.”
He added: “This site in Thornton Cleveleys would be one of our first directly built developments in the North West, where we will be delivering much needed homes for affordable rent and shared ownership.”
The 12-acre site was acquired in February 2021 and the previously enjoyed consent for a supermarket, permission for which has now lapsed.
