Appointments: Growth at Mathys & Squire; MSL gets HR head & more…

INTELLECTUAL Property firm Mathys & Squire, has appointed Dr David Martin, as a senior European and UK patent attorney.

Martin, an expert in IP relating to life sciences, chemistry, and medical devices, said: “Mathys & Squire has established an excellent reputation for providing expert, commercially-focused IP advice.  I am delighted to be joining the life sciences team and to be able to contribute to the continuing success of the Manchester office.”

FORMER Royal Navy officer Alan Mills has been hired by MSL Legal Expenses, part of MSL Group, to lead its new HR service.

Mills will head up MSL Risk Management, which offers a range of HR services on flexible terms for brokers that need professional personnel and risk advice.
 
He spent 30 years in the Navy, leaving in 2006 in the rank of executive warrant officer, in which his role included all aspects of HR, damage control officer, flight deck officer and whole ship co-ordinator. Since leaving he has worked for a number of businesses, most recently as a consultant at Manchester-based Peninsula Business Services.

WILL Waldron QC from Exchange Chambers in Liverpool has been elected as a Master of the Bench at Gray’s Inn – where honorary benchers include HRH The Prince of Wales, HRH The Duke of Gloucester and Hilary Clinton.

Each of the four Inns of Court at the Bar has three ordinary grades of membership: students, barristers, and Masters of the Bench or benchers. The benchers constitute the governing body for each Inn and appoint new members from existing barrister members.
