Emma Wood and Daniel Lloyd-John

Broadway Insurance Brokers has expanded its senior ranks with a brace of appointments.

Emma Wood has joined as the Cheshire firm’s new director of healthcare, while Louisa Roberts has been recruited as senior client executive.

Broadway’s chief executive, Daniel Lloyd-John, has described how a key factor in its continued growth had been a rise in the number of client businesses opting to use health cover to attract and retain staff in the face of NHS treatment delays, saying: “It makes perfect sense that we should have that effort led by someone who is not only immensely talented and knows the sector well but who fits with our way of doing things.

“In Emma, we are tremendously lucky to have found just such a person. Together with Louisa, she is another valuable addition to our team and will help make the task of supporting clients even easier.”

Ms Wood joins after almost two decades of working in healthcare insurance, the last nine years of which has been spent with one of the UK’s longest established independent brokers.

Her appointment follows the recruitment of Gary Ward as director of operations, internal audit, risk and compliance in July.

Ms Roberts has amassed 25 years’ experience with several of the North West’s best known brokers.

A fire and security company has appointed a new branch director to strengthen its presence in Manchester.

Jackson Fire and Security, which has 13 sites across the UK, has recruited Middleton-based Paul Hogg to ensure more businesses in the region are equipped with up-to-date building safety solutions.

With strong links in Manchester, having previously worked as a site engineer in the Arndale Centre, Paul is eager to further extend the branch’s reach across the region. He has already expanded services into Oldham, Rochdale and parts of Trafford, while also covering Bury, Bolton, and Wigan, and has recruited engineer Jason Heywood to assist with its growth.

The branch takeover builds on Paul’s longstanding relationship with the Mold-based firm, developed during his time at Europe’s largest industrial manufacturing conglomerate, Siemens.

Paul said: “Despite working across the country with Siemens, I’ve lived in Manchester my whole life and began my career here, starting as an apprentice in the city centre at age 15 where I carried out electrical maintenance on high rise buildings. I’m excited to be part of a national brand identity while harnessing my knowledge of fire and safety regulations to strengthen support for local organisations, from large businesses to charities and sports clubs.”

Managing director, Steve Jackson, said: “We are lucky to have a brilliant relationship with our suppliers, so by recruiting Paul, who has extensive industry knowledge, we hope to keep our finger on the pulse. As we already have a presence in Manchester, it will be fantastic to focus on expanding our contracts in the area and seamlessly provide businesses with the most recent technologies.”

A trio of apprentices, Louis Prescott, Bailey Black and James Hodgkiss, are all enrolled on the Manufacturing Engineering Degree Apprenticeship at Blackpool and the Fylde College.

They have become part of the team at Blackpool-based Airframe Designs as it continues to grow its specialisms in producing highly complex components to some of the largest aviation, defence and space organisations worldwide.

James Hodgkiss, 24, who lives in Poulton-le-Fylde, said: “I’m mostly involved in design which is an aspect of engineering I’ve always had a big interest in. It’s good to know we have the experienced engineers within the design team, they are always able to help if advice or guidance is required with the software and ensuring our designs are consistent.”

Bailey Black, 19, from Carleton, near Blackpool, said: “My dad and his dad were engineers so it was a natural fit for me. I get to learn at college for my degree and also work with the team at Airframe Designs so it’s an ideal combination.”

Supporting the apprentices are three veterans of the aerospace engineering industry. Design consultant Dean Kelly, senior concept design engineer Andrew White and senior design engineer Mark Dugdale all previously worked on prestigious projects for BAE Systems.

Airframe Designs CEO, Jerrod Hartley, said: “We believe in nurturing talent and giving our apprentices the best opportunities with a structured training programme.”
