University schemes to dominate next Manchester planning meeting

Plans for the Ardwick scheme

Manchester City Council’s planning committee has a packed agenda for next Thursday’s meeting, with a total of nine applications.

All have been recommended for approval by officers, but as recent meetings have shown that is no guarantee of the outcome.

Two of them relate to the masterplan to build student homes and commercial lab space in the Ardwick ward, bordering Upper Brook Street and part of the main Oxford Road campus.

A further application has been submitted to request access rights to the Fallowfield student village site – Owens Park – which the University itself wishes to demolish and create more and better quality student homes with a net increase of 950 unites, taking the total to 3,300.

The other applications are conversions of offices to residential in Withington and Northenden, and domestic applications including that of Cllr Lee-Ann Igbon.
