Seven Bro7hers Brewery closes Liverpool beerhouse, temporarily

Salford-based Seven Bro7hers Brewery has closed its Liverpool beer house, but said it could re-open the site, in Wolstenholme Square, at a future date.

It opened the site in May 2022, its fourth beerhouse in its growing portfolio and the first expansion outside of the family’s Salford hometown.

The opening followed six months of delays, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, a notice on the Liverpool site’s portal on the company’s website reads: “Unfortunately, we are closed for the foreseeable future.”

The company blamed rising costs, inflation, and “the lack of government support for the hospitality sector”.

In a statement, company spokesperson, Keith McAvoy, said: “In this current economic climate we have to consider our business as a whole and review the success and affordability of all of our sites – we have now taken the unfortunate decision to temporarily close our Liverpool Beerhouse.

“With rising costs, inflation, and the lack of government support for the hospitality sector, for the time being remaining open isn’t sustainable.”

He added: “We feel very fortunate to have opened a bar in Liverpool, and from day one have felt welcomed with open arms by the city – therefore, we have not ruled out reopening in the future.

“For now we want to thank everyone who has supported the beerhouse to date and our incredible staff. We ask people to watch this space and support local hospitality businesses at this time.”

The company’s four other beerhouses, and two pop-up locations, remain open.

When the Liverpool site opened, Mr McAvoy said: “The Liverpool site has been a long time in the making, but we believe it will be worth the wait. We have worked through a series of setbacks following the COVID-19 pandemic, so it feels like a huge achievement for the whole family to open our doors this month.

“We are very proud to show the people of this great city our brand-new space and can’t wait to kick off and be part of the Liverpool buzz.”

He added: “It is important to us to recruit local talent in the city, and we want to work with Merseyside suppliers as we grow into this new neighbourhood. We are passionate about family and can’t wait to bring Liverpool into the fold.”

The bar is situated around the corner from popular hangout Duke Street Market and offered indoor and outdoor seating.

Seven Bro7hers was founded in 2014 by McAvoy brothers, Guy, Keith, Luke, Daniel, Nathan, Kit, and Greg, inspired by their dad’s home brewing in their cellar at home.

The brothers run beerhouses in Middlewood Locks, Salford and Ancoats, in Manchester, and also operate a taproom bar in the brewery.

In July 2020 they opened their partnership bar at Manchester Airports new T2 Departure Lounge and in May 2021 they opened their doors to a Beerhouse in the heart of MediaCityUK.
