Stricken mobile phone firm snapped up by listed giant

Stricken Derbyshire mobile phone provider A1 Comms has been bought out of administration by AO World in a deal worth £2.2m.

The deal will save 73 jobs at A1 Comms, which fell into administration earlier this month.

A statement from AO said: “As AO seeks to expand its mobile proposition, the acquisition of the brands and platforms will provide AO with expertise and synergies that will accelerate this ambition.”

A1 Comms which had offices in Alfreton, Darley Abbey and Derby, sold mobile phones through its online consumer brands Affordable Mobiles, Buymobiles and Phones.co.uk. It was established in 1997.

The move comes just days after we exclusively revealed that A1 Comms had posted a notice of intention to appoint administrators
