Number could be up for mobile phone firm
Derbyshire-based A1 Comms is staring at an uncertain future after posting a notice of intention to appoint administrators (NOI).
The firm, which has offices in Alfreton, Darley Abbey and Derby, sells mobile phones through its online consumer brands Affordable Mobiles, Buymobiles and Phones.co.uk. It was established in 1997.
The NOI was posted through law firm Freeths. It protects A1 Comms from creditor action for around two weeks.
In its latest accounts, made up to the end of April 2022, the firm posted revenues of £152m and a profit of £451,992. At the time, A1 Comms employed 155 people.
In May of 2022, A1 Comms revealed plans to expand its telesales and customer service operations and create more than 30 part-time and full-time roles including customer support and sales advisor positions.
The company has suffered from poor online reviews for the last few months, with many customers taking to ratings site Trustpilot to complain. One called A1 Comms a “dreadful company to deal with”.
A1 Comms has been contacted for comment.
