Economist Jim O’Neill turns author

CELEBRATED Manchester-born economist Jim O’Neill, chairman of Goldman Sachs Asset Management, is publishing his maiden book in December.

Entitled ‘The Growth Map’ the book, to be published globally by Portfolio Penguin, looks at economic opportunity in the BRIC nations and beyond.

Born in Gatley near Stockport O’Neill christened the fast-growing economies of Brazil, Russia India and China the BRICs in 2001.

Described as a ‘rock star of economics’ O’Neill was last year one of several high profile business supporters of Manchester United involved in the Red Knights consortium which was looking to bid for the club.

O’Neill  said: “Now more than ever do we need to understand the economic forces that are reshaping our world. The BRICs have already had a transformational impact on the global economy, and other fast growing countries are now following their lead.

“Ten years after I dreamed up the BRICs phenomenon, I have no doubt that the rise of the growth markets is the single most important economic dynamic for our generation and the next.”  The Growth Map will be published on December 5.
