Massive hotel makeover delivers 285-room refurbishment

A full refurbishment of all 285 bedrooms, as well as corridors, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Manchester Piccadilly, has completed.

The hotel, which is managed by global hotel management company Valor Hospitality, underwent the work programme from July 2023, to give the rooms a more modern feel, while focusing on limiting the impact it would have on the environment.

Almost 70 tonnes of waste was diverted from landfill, while also donating televisions to long standing charity partner, Embassy Village.

For several years, the hotel has worked with Embassy Village, engaging in fundraising activities and hiring team members from the Manchester homelessness charity.

As well as items being donated to charity, 54 tonnes of furniture has been reused within the hospitality industry, by working with The Hotel Clearance Company. The wardrobes and mini bar units were fitted with new tops and reused in situ, with carpet and underlay recycled to be donated as pet bedding.

The design work was carried out by ABDA Design, which leant on Manchester’s rich industrial history to create a visually pleasing design, focusing on a colour palette of blue, yellow, and orange.

Rachael Sheldon, senior designer at ABDA Design, said: “As the hotel is used by guests staying for both business and leisure, we wanted to ensure the room styling would appeal to all. We created a softness to the rooms, whilst still maintaining a contemporary feel and sumptuous materials.

“The corridor areas also received a new lease of life with a full decoration, which included an eye-catching feature mural that celebrates the hotel’s proximity to the train station.”
