Gin distillery relocating production to expand capacity

Liverpool-based gin distillery, Turncoat, is relocating its production facility to Love Lane Brewery, based in the city’s Baltic Triangle, close to Turncoat’s previous site in Jordan Street.

Turncoat Distillery, known for its innovative cascade beer-hopped gin, was rescued in February last year by Liverpool enterpreneur, Edward Ridding, after closing down in December 2022.

In a strategic move aimed at expanding production capacity and enhancing operational efficiency, Turncoat Distillery said the decision to relocate operations, represents a natural evolution, allowing it to leverage the infrastructure and resources of one of Love Lane Brewery.

Founded in 2016 with a vision to create exceptional gins that capture the spirit of Liverpool, Turncoat has earned acclaim for its distinctive flavours and commitment to craftsmanship.

By joining forces with Love Lane Brewery, Turncoat aims to further elevate its production capabilities while maintaining the same uncompromising standards that have defined its brand since inception, it said.

Edward Ridding said: “We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Love Lane Brewery as we embark on this exciting new chapter for Turncoat.

“This move not only allows us to streamline our operations, but also allows us to offer on-site gin tasting experiences and distillery tours.

“We are confident that this strategic decision will enable us to continue delivering exceptional spirits to our customers while staying true to our roots in Liverpool. It also represents a homecoming with Turncoat and Love Lane both having a mutual co-founder.”

Gary Manning, new managing director of Love Lane Brewery, welcomed Turncoat Gin, saying: “Their commitment to craftsmanship and innovation aligns perfectly with our own values, and we are excited to work together to create a wonderful experience for all guests here at Love Lane Brewery.”

Love Lane Brewery’s Bar and Kitchen has undergone an extensive makeover since being rescued out of administration by TJ Morris Brewing Ltd in January this year.

TJ Morris is the company behind Liverpool-based retail giant, Home Bargains.

Love Lane Brewery entered administration last October for the second time in just over a year. The Love Lane Brewery Bar & Kitchen was unaffected.

In June 2022, Love Lane Brewery secured investment from Cheshire retailer Nick Canning as part of a pre-pack administration after entering administration.

Canning spent 15 years at Iceland Foods, ending as joint managing director after spells as chairman of the company’s charitable foundation and its subsidiary Cooltrader.
