Challenger university UA92 has attracted a heavyweight advisory board to build links in the regional community for its burgeoning business school.

Chairing the board will be Warren Middleton, recently retired senior partner of KPMG.

He told TheBusinessDesk.com that he wanted to carry on the support for Gary Neville’s boutique university: “UA92 has such an incredible offer to young people, and I just want to use my experience to really make a difference.”

Sarah Prowse, chief executive, said: “Because Warren has been so instrumental to KPMG’s support for UA92 we simply couldn’t lose him from our ecosystem.”

The other board members are Kirsty Rogers from law firm DWF; Collette Roche, the chief operating officer of Manchester United FC; Tim Franklin, chair of The Very Group; Ben Peppi, head of sports services at JMW; and Stephen Turner from Group 55, a manufacturer of dog grooming products.

The relatively new Business School is based in Salford, across the Irwell from the bustling Spinningfields hub of Manchester.

The 36,000 sq ft campus located in Baskerville House (the former AO headquarters on Browncross Street, Salford) opened two years ahead of schedule and will cater for up to 1,200 students studying business degrees and higher education qualifications.

Founded by the Neville’s team mates in the so-called Manchester United Class of ‘92 and Lancaster University, UA92 is known as a “disruptive provider” in higher education and targets students from diverse backgrounds to its portfolio of degree and industry-led courses across business, sport, media and digital disciplines, where it has partnership deals with over 80 industry partners including Microsoft, TalkTalk, KPMG and Manchester United.

The businesses provide career advice to students, mentorships, guest lectures and work experience opportunities and offer strong financial support beyond traditional scholarships and government loans to cater for students who may not otherwise have been able to access higher education opportunities.
