Proposal for new 69-apartment scheme goes to public consultation
A public consultation has been launched for a 69-apartment housing scheme in Beswick.
Manchester-based Great Places Housing Group has launched the consultation on its affordable housing development ahead of submitting a planning application.
The proposed scheme for social rent will be on a vacant site on the corner of Grey Mare Lane and Ashton New Road. The site is brownfield, having been previously occupied by the Manchester Bar pub, which was demolished in 2020.
It aims to deliver a mix of one- and two-bed apartments. Proposals include private garden spaces to ground floor apartments, recessed balconies for apartments above ground floor level and high quality landscaping.
New pedestrian links will also improve the connectivity to Grey Mare Lane and Ashton New Road from Newcombe Close.
The proposals have been developed working in close partnership with Manchester City Council, One Manchester, and This City as part of the wider proposals for the Grey Mare Lane estate masterplan.
Residents will be able to see the plans and give their views at a public consultation on the Grey Mare Lane Masterplan at The Grange – 4 Pilgrim Drive, Beswick – on July 15, from 2:30-6:30pm.
Helen Spencer, Executive Director of Growth at Great Places, said: “The proposed development will provide high quality, affordable housing in the area and we look forward to hearing the views of the local community and working with our partners to make this vision a reality.”
