Community’s views sought on plans for 500 more homes at Woodford Garden Village

Extension plans for Woodford Garden Village

A public consultation has been launched into plans to add a further 500 new homes in an extension of Woodford Garden Village in south Manchester.

Harrow Estates, part of North West housebuilder Redrow Group, is behind the plans as part of a comprehensive masterplan.

A sustainable mix of around 500 new homes is proposed including a significant portion of affordable homes, family housing, senior living, and self-build plots to meet the borough’s housing need.

Local heritage will be supported by a new mixed-use community hub next to the Avro Heritage Museum. This hub would include a community building with events space and wider flexible community spaces.

Harrow Estates is keen to hear views regarding this hub, which could serve as a focal point for the community.

The public consultation will take place alongside the submission of an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Scoping Report to Stockport Council, with a full suite of technical information and surveys being prepared in support of the proposals.

Residents are invited to attend a series of public drop-in exhibitions comprising: Wednesday, July 17, and Thursday, July 18, at Woodford War Memorial Community Centre, Chester Road, Woodford, both 4.30pm-7pm). A public consultation website will be fully launched on July 17, at: www.woodfordextension.co.uk.

Tim Noden, Planning Director at Harrow Estates, said: “This early stage public consultation allows the local community to inform and influence these plans which include a mix of new homes, green and landscape-led spaces, and a new, enhanced community hub.

“We are establishing the design principles which will underpin further design work. Feedback received will help ensure these proposals complement the existing development at Woodford Garden Village.”

Woodford Garden Village secured planning consent in 2015, and since then more than 600 homes have been built on the site of the former Woodford Aerodrome.
The Aviator pub restaurant and primary school are now open. Planning permission was granted for a local centre in 2023, and planning conditions are now being discharged ahead of works commencing.

Harrow Estates is working towards a submission for planning for the new development later this year.
