Plans for logistics site that could support 1,200 jobs go to public consultation
A public consultation has been launched into plans to develop a new 87,967 sq m logistics warehouse in South Liverpool that could support more than 1,200 jobs.
The 50-acre site is the former location of the Prinovis printing factory.
Bertelsmann Marketing Services, the German parent company of Prinovis UK, announced a managed shutdown of the Liverpool site in 2022, due to market decline and huge increases in raw material costs, particularly in energy. Prinovis is the UK’s last remaining publication gravure printer with sales last year of more than £46m.
GB Europe Holdings acquired the land, at Dakota Drive, Speke, earlier this year and is now launching the public consultation process.
The existing outdated buildings would be sensitively demolished, and a purpose-built, modern facility would be built alongside office space, HGV loading and staff parking.
Sustainability measures including electric vehicle charging, secure cycle parking and extensive landscaping and tree planting would complete the development.
Residents are invited to attend a public drop-in exhibition at the David Lloyd Leisure Centre, 6 The Aerodrome, Speke, from 3pm to 7pm on Tuesday, July 23.
A public consultation website is also being launched at: https://www.avisonyoung .co.uk/planning-consultations
If planning is successfully achieved, the logistics facility will be operated by Uniserve, which is part of the GB Europe Holdings group of companies.
Once fully operational, it is estimated that up to approximately 1,200 jobs could be supported within the area, generating circa £75m of economic benefits per year. This is in addition to up to approximately 680 jobs supported during construction.
A spokesperson for GB Europe Holdings said: “We would like to invite as many people as possible to participate in the consultation and provide their views on the plans for redevelopment of the former printing site.
“Our plans would create a state-of-the-art logistics centre, creating jobs and generating significant local economic benefit.
“The warehouse building will be designed to a high quality to meet modern day employment needs, with occupier wellbeing at the forefront of decision making. The new facility would sit within extensively landscaped surroundings including newly planted trees.”
Members of the public are encouraged to attend the public exhibition and/or visit the website to share views by Friday, August 2, 2024. Alternatively, email: planningconsultations.uk@avisonyoung.com or call 0161-956 4176.
GB Europe Holdings is working towards a submission for planning for the new development later this year.
