Local authority names developer to deliver 274 new homes

Salford City Council has named Vistry Group to deliver 274 new homes in Ordsall.
It has agreed a £3m enabling works contract with the council as the first step towards the delivery of the new housing stock.
The council went to tender in early 2023 to find a contractor to deliver the £60m project that will see the transformation of approximately 10 acres of brownfield land off Robert Hall Street and West Park Street.
Countryside Partnerships, part of Vistry Group, has now been selected as the preferred bidder, meeting the council’s quality and cost criteria, and will deliver the project on full planning approval.
The collaboration will see the delivery of 137 homes and 137 apartments, 40% of which will be affordable and managed by the council’s local housing company, Derive.
There will be improvements to existing public open space and the creation of new public parks.
Additionally, all of the homes will be designed to meet the “Salford Standard” which exceeds the Future Homes Standard.
Joe Turner, Managing Director, Vistry Manchester and Cheshire East, welcomed the opportunity, saying: “It will provide a significant number of affordable homes, whilst bringing a previously redundant brownfield site back into beneficial use, which is exactly what we seek to achieve as an organisation.”
