Tributes have been paid to the businessman Neville Johnson following his passing this week.

His son Stephen Johnson, managing director of Quooker, said: “It is with deep sadness that my sister, brother and I announce the passing of our beloved Dad, Neville Johnson.

“A remarkable individual in every way.

“He touched the hearts of everyone around him.”

Best known for this kitchen and furniture business which bears his name, but which he sold in 1995, he ran furniture business Johnson and Johnson and in his later years also formed Venture Counsellors and Investors with four other business veterans to mentor and invest in younger start-up companies.

His nephew Simon Johnson, chair of the Rugby Football League, said: “His reputation will last in the memories of many for generations. He built many successful businesses, and employed many people, built and enhanced careers, creating economic benefit for Greater Manchester in numerous areas.

“But, it was for his quiet, gentle mentoring and support that he gave to so many in business that will help his reputation to endure. He loved to impart his wisdom and experience and so many will have benefitted from it, myself included.”
